About Us

Stranraer Skills Station was established as a Care and Support Service in August 2010 by friends and colleagues Elaine McCourtney and Gillian Templeton whose ethos of professional and responsive care is still reflected in the way that support is delivered , promoting, choice, dignity, outcomes and control for all individuals.

We are local girls and reactive employers, looking to provide jobs for local people and bring prosperity to the area.

Gillian Templeton, Managing Director

Providing the right support, at the right time, in the way the individual desires are fundamental to all we do.

Elaine McCourtney, Managing Director

Originally Stranraer Skills Station’s Management Team and Committee’s plan was to support Adults with Learning Disabilities through their Support Service registered with the Care Inspectorate. However, the duo quickly identified a need to register as a Care at Home Service to enable Stranraer Skills Station to fully meet all needs of those using their services in the local community of Stranraer and surrounding areas.

More recently, with the expansion of Day Care Services, Stranraer Skills Station acquired additional new venues within our local community and town of Stranraer, to enhance and further develop its’ Day Care Services for Adults with Additional and/ or Specialist Needs, where 1:1 support can be offered, also to offer Day Care Services for Older Adults in different locations to suit individuals, in small group, homely, comfortable and welcoming facilities .

Our Values

To support Adults with Learning and Physical Disabilities, Ill health Visual and Hearing Impairment, Acquired Brain Injury and Challenging Behaviour throughout our local community regardless of their colour, race or creed, by providing the environment necessary for their individual physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

We believe that everyone, whatever his or her need, is a uniquely valuable individual should have the personal freedom to pursue their aspirations and take their own place in the world, with unquestionable Human Rights.
